Kanye (the biggest knucklehead in the) West

Yeah. Like I told a colleague yesterday: he has, in one shining collection of short moments, given every ignorant, stereotyping, racist bigot moron in America a freaking Quonset hut full of ammo.

He wasn’t alone in the outburst category this weekend, either. Tennis star Serena Williams also got into the act.

Sounded to me like Serena just got her diva on and lost her composure. No excuse, but I suppose it happens (can you say John McEnroe? — although I don’t remember him threatening to shove a tennis ball down the judge’s throat):

But West…he’s just a tool who can’t hold his tongue (or his Hennessy), so all that comes out of his mouth is stupid tripe. (“I’m anti-book” — way to influence America’s impressionable youth, Einstein.) But of course, it’s everyone else’s fault because, you know, he spent a million dollars and jumped across canyons & stuff.

Kanye attempted to apologize after he’d realized what a consummate butt-clown he’d made of himself (it showed a decided lack of class when compared with Serena’s apology — even if it was blatantly obvious that Serena’s handlers made her think again and amend her previous statement to appear more “apologetic”). After he was escorted from the building and delivered to his “crib” (*sigh*), West attacked his blog, writing his apology, or cognac-soaked regurgitation, whichever you want to call it:

I’m sooooo sorry to Taylor Swift and her fans and her mom. I spoke to her mother right after and she said the same thing my mother would’ve said. She is very talented! I like the lyrics about being a cheerleader and she’s in the bleachers! I’m in the wrong for going on stage and taking away from her moment!

BeyoncĂ©’s video was the best of this decade!!!! I’m sorry to my fans if I let you guys down!!!! I’m sorry to my friends at MTV. I will apologize to Taylor 2mrw. Welcome to the real world!!!! Everybody wanna booooo me but I’m a fan of real pop culture!!! No disrespect but we watchin’ the show at the crib right now cause … well you know!!!! I’m still happy for Taylor!!!! Boooyaaawwww!!!! You are very very talented!!! I gave my awards to Outkast when they deserved it over me … That’s what it is!!!!!!! I’m not crazy y’all, i’m just real. Sorry for that!!! I really feel bad for Taylor and I’m sincerely sorry!!! Much respect!!!!!”

I am not making this up. Takes all kinds and all that, and I know some weird folks who are great entertainers. But going up onstage (drunk or not) and stealing someone’s moment so you can have your own big fat stupid say just screams one thing to the rafters — and I can’t print it here. Suffice it to say that the blogs were absolutely smoking with this story yesterday.

So WTG, Kanye. I am entertained. :-)

Fink out.

I liked that Serena got mad. That’s just another part of sports……everyone should be allowed the occasional tirade.

Kanye is an idiot. However…I don’t think he should have to worry about any of his actions perpetuating a stereotype. It isn’t his responsibility.

Worrying about whether or not the bigots have ammo should be the last thing on anyones mind. They could have all the ammo in the world and it would still not justify hate.

I’m not worried whether or not the bigots have ammo. It was just a simple statement that that is indeed what this moron did — perpetuate the stereotype for those with a penchant for stereotyping. It may not be his “responsibility,” but it was definitely a result.

I’m just saying he can’t perpetuate something that isn’t up to him to perpetuate.

The stereotype is not continued by those who fit it, but by the prejudiced ones who created it.

You’re saying that people are not moved to action or thought via stimulus. Consider this:

      A. There are people in this world who harbor prejudices.
      B. Someone acts in a way that fuels this prejudice, validating the bigot’s baseless assumptions.
      C. That “someone” has perpetuated a stereotype.

Belaboring this is pendantic. I gotta get back to work.

Oh, sonny…you have much to see and learn outside the corn fields! But I’ll give you the last word on this.
          :-)

I say what I think. If it had been Beyonce up there and a white guy got up and did what Kanye did – it would be a whole different story.

  4. Master of the Uniform

I agree with Tom Hanks’ first and second responses. I hope that he’ll get on here and make himself a bit more clear.

And, Mavis, your last comment resembled someone taking ammo from his/her Quonset hut, which has been filled with things of your choosing.

You are totally missing the point of her comment. She based it not on imagined circumstances, but on real events. I’ve seen stuff like this happen dozens of times in the last 30 years.

It’s a matter of stupidity and drunkenness, and has nothing to do with race. To put in it such terms slides dangerously close to building your own ‘hut’.

I can’t help but notice that you took the time to undo Kanye’s love for the Caps Lock Button. Thank you for that. Personally, Beyonce turned out to be a class act for the night. I thought it was awesome of her to give up her own acceptance speech later on so Taylor could finish her own.

I thought that was fantastic too! She was very sweet (and professionally, it was an extremely smart move) to do it.

  7. Mavis

I’ve lived a long time and I’ve seen this happen many times, as well. If the roles were reversed, they would be crying, DISCRIMINATION! I’m not a racist, I’m just stating facts of life.

  8. Master of the Uniform

Mavis: Just because you’ve lived a long time, doesn’t imply that you’ve made the correct assumptions along the way; learned the right things. Most of the bigots I’ve met are over the age of 40.

Jax: Sometimes youth see with unclouded eyes. Sometimes the ‘mature’ are entrenched, often in the wrong trench. How is it a ‘necessity’ that age implies wisdom?

Haha. OK. This is obviously a case of “and no minds were changed.” Both sides have points — I concede you have your right to express yours. I will not have a flame war here. Enough already.

No sweety – **I** forbid we discuss it, for this very reason. Commenting on my posts is one thing — even if it’s a divergent opinion. That’s fine. Getting in people’s faces about it – that’s another thing. Find a blog where people flame each other back and forth all day for that crap. It ain’t gonna go on here, that’s all I’m saying.

To me (you know, the one who pays the bills around here), haranguing on about race issues solves NOTHING — just like haranguing on about politics solves nothing. You can find that anywhere on the web; I just decided back in February of 2008 that it’s not going to go on here.

Regardless of the racial/political/ethereal twist, West acted like a selfish, stupid boor. There is NO CHANGING THAT FACT. That this thing spun out of control by your nitpicking at my word choice is just ridiculous. It’s not civil discourse; it’s just stupid back-and-forth zinger-flinging, and I won’t have it.

What I will have, however, is the last word on this. Don’t like it…go over to FoxNews.com and let fly, babe.
