Had to happen

At some point, right? I decided to give them a try for a year.

Interestingly, AARP was started by a woman who was looking for fair, affordable health insurance for retired teachers.

I always thought that once you reached age 65, you were eligible for AARP membership, but I’ve been receiving offers to join for several years now. Maybe it’s because people are retiring earlier? Or maybe AARP, like the Christmas retailers, just wants to get a huge early jump into the money-grab game? It could happen.

I haven’t read the accompanying brochure completely yet, but I plan to compare AARP’s goodies to that of AAA, to which the Thriller and I also belong. We shall see if I send them another $16 next November.  Truth be told, what really sealed the deal for my joining this time was the offer of the cute little lunch bag. :-)

Anyone else an AARP member? What can you tell me? What have they done for you lately?

I started getting stuff from AARP when I reached 50 years old and they’ve been sending stuff ever since. I don’t belong nor do I take their insurance. My mom has been a member and uses their health-care insurance as her “secondary” policy. The AARP insurance has picked up a lot of uncovered Medicare items over the past several years. Whether it’s a bargain or not for teachers, I’m not sure about that–there’s still the deductible to be met!

Not sure you remember, but Mother and Dad both had AARP. They loved it. Dad always said they had a number of great perks and enjoyed having them all.

Well I will see what they “do” for us. I’ve heard/read both good and bad, and there may come a day when I need supplemental health insurance. I guess for now, I’m in a “wait and see” pattern. Mavis I don’t remember Mother & Dad having this — I’m looking forward to seeing what I can get with travel points & such.
